How much of an artist? Idk enough to graduate with an associates degree in fine arts from a community college. I kinda feel like that doesn't say much though. Sooo many people are better than me and are still in high school and are self taught. That being said, I think I can safely say that the sexy guy above who I drew just mere minutes ago, is self-taught.
What got me into art? That's a tough one to answer because as a kid I was always drawing. I drew pokemon, doggies, kitties, flowers, butterflies, trees, and all that generic stuff. But what REALLY got me drawing?
This piece of awesome shit:
Whoa what is that?
That, dear readers, is Ginga Nagareboshi Gin-- a manga and anime series back from yester-yester-yester-year (aka 1980's). I came across it when I was 13-years old, and from there I became inspired. I started actively drawing dogs. Now, I call my drawings "Ginga style" but dear lord, if you look at them now you'd just think it was a poorly drawn dog. they looked nothing like the Ginga style. But you know, I'm glad. It's not always a good thing when you can see stylistic influences in art. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it's not good to model your personal style around another artist's.
I've been influenced by a lot of DA artists as well, considering I've been on that stupid website for around 8 years.
But I usually draw dogs-- majorly because that's what I draw best and it's my comfort zone. I've dabbled in people, and every time I sit down to work on humans they look better than the last time.
Lookie-- Beast Boy!
"It's not good to only draw in a certain style and you should draw more real life--"
WHAT'S THAT?
I COULDN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND
OF MY FLIMSY-PIECE-OF-PAPER OF AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE
I had to draw stuff I didn't wanna draw, and I learned a lot from all the things I had to draw. In fact, I learned that I rather enjoy drawing leaves! <3 I also learned that I enjoy abstract painting omg it's wonderful.
Actually, here's an old comparison picture of how my art looked ages ago:
Wow
First of all, that's a big jump between that year. Like good job young me, pat yourself on the back! I miss Iben, I should really consider revamping him and changing up his story. But he was my training wheels. His comic was the first thing I actively started drawing and thus propelled me into the love of comic-making.
My journey in art has been long, but it is by no means over! I look forward to many more years of drawing and telling stories!
